Selling Your Atlanta Home Post-Summer

Now that summer is behind us, we wanted to discuss why selling your home may not be the best idea during summer. We know that lots of people look to sell during spring and summer nationwide, but we have a few reasons that may help you make the decision to sell, or not, right now.

First thing we wanted to mention is the weather. Naturally, we’re all aware that it’s way hotter during the summer months here in Georgia. However, many don’t know that this means there will be fewer people out and about during the day. Going to open houses drenched in sweat isn’t the most fun. Later in the summer could mean hurricane season, which creates a ton of rain and uncertain weather forecasts (more unsure than normal). Also, you will find it much harder to sell your home if the AC isn’t set low enough for the buyer. This might seem like kind of an odd thing, but one of the best ways to save energy in your home is dealing with it being a little warmer than what is generally comfortable for you. Good for saving money, not so good for selling a home.

Something else to consider is that no matter how humid it is where you live there will be an increase in dust and other allergens during summer. You’ll need to make sure that you spend more time during the summer dusting and cleaning prior to showings than you would during the rest of the year. This can also be a hassle when it comes time to take photos of the property too. The last thing you want is people thinking the house is dirtier than it really is in person.

Thanks to the previous two points, there will be fewer people looking to buy a home during summer. People are usually taking vacations, going to visit family, or other varied reasons for travel during summer months. There’s also more child activities during the summer days as well. These things prevent people from having free time to devote to walking around your home.

Lastly, something you want to consider is that even with everything that we’ve stated above, there are still many people trying to sell their home during the summer months too. This is often the time that most inexperienced people will try to sell their home believing that it’s a good decision. While we support anyone who wants to sell their home, we do want to be sure to help you in any way we can. Being aware that there are significantly more sellers during summer can mean that you are better prepared to make the best decision. It is entirely possible that there could be more, sometimes much more, sellers than buyers during summer. This means that your home could be a little harder to sell.

As we roll into fall, many folks start to prep for the holidays. This usually ends up being a slower time for both buyers and sellers. If you need to sell your house, we buy houses in the Atlanta area year round. You’ll always get our best possible offer, regardless of the time of year or the condition of the home.
